It was strange how things managed to work out, really. Over the seven years that Ron Weasley had spent at Hogwarts he'd managed to learn a few things besides how to do magic. One was that it was always calm before a storm. Every year worked out the same way. He'd come to school in September and hope that it'd actually be a good year. Somehow that never worked though, and someone almost always wound up getting hurt.
Ron stepped out into the courtyard, deep in thought. Term had started exactly one week ago and it was finally Friday. The teachers had assigned so much work already. A small part of him knew it was to be expected since it was N.E.W.T year, but he didn't take Percy seriously when he said that this would be the hardest week of his school career! His brother liked to over exaggerate things, so it was a bit of a nasty shock to find out that he'd been telling the truth. There was a lot swarming through Ron's head as he walked over to the bench by the fountain.
Sighing, Ron took a seat. He rested his elbows on his knees and buried his forehead in his hands. It was break time for the seventh years, one of the few perks of being older. Ron knew he should be tackling the mountain of assignments but his heart wasn't in it. It never really was; but today was one of those days where he couldn't even concentrate. So he opted to get away from the Gryffindor common room and get some air. He was feeling apprehensive and he needed to clear his head.

____________________ Seventh year, not a good year for an epic battle, but who else would choose such a horrible year to confront Harry than Lord Voldemort. When most seventh year students were worrying about studying for their exams, Harry was trying not to get himself killed. He had been really good at it so far, not a ounce of trouble, but it was sure not to last, especially when Bellatrix was the Headmistress. Harry had been thinking while on his way to the kitchens, he hadn't ate lunch due to the fact he was trying to do his homework. Trying was the key word. Doing homework without the help of Hermione seemed impossible now. He had cursed himself many times for being to dependent on Hermione and her help. he must really learn to pay attention in class. When he passed the courtyard, he seen a flash of red hair, and at first he thought it was Ginny, but with another quick look, he found it was his best mate, Ron. Smirking, he walked out onto the courtyard, " Hey." he said, looking at him with a curious smile on his face. " What are you doing out here, by yourself?" he asked, knowing Ron was rarely seen without Hermione or himself. This was what made him think something was wrong.

Hermione walked around the Common Room, she couldn't find Harry anywhere, and was beginning to worry about hi, more than ever. She had never wanted to leave Harry by himself anymore, she just couldn't stop worrying. Since Bellatri took over, it was her right to worry about her best friends. And her feelings towards one of them, weren't helping one bit.
After looking all over the place for either of them in the Common Room, hallways, Quidditch grounds and the Boys Dormatries, she gave up, hoping nothing was wrong. As she walked back, she spotted the red head, and the black, scarred boy, Harry and Ron.
"Hey. What are you guys doing out here?" she asked, walking over to them, but then saw Ron's face. "What's wrong with you?" she asked, sitting next to her friend

Ron was so lost in thought that he didn't hear the approaching footsteps until they stopped right in front of him. An expression of annoyance crossed his face and Ron held back a groan. He didn't want to be disturbed now, not if it was by some pesky little student. Ready to snap off at the unfortunate individual standing in front of him for being out of class or something, he sat up. His irritation disappeared at the site of one of his favorite friends.
"Hey Harry." Ron smiled, relieved that he wouldn't have to waste energy on telling someone off. "I'm admiring the orchids and the birds" he said jokingly. He scooted over a bit to make room for Harry to sit. Ron ran his fingers through his hair and looked around. He could hear the gleeful shouts of the fifth years coming from the lawn, making him glad that he chose to come out here. Out of the corner of his eye he caught site of a familiar head of bushy hair coming towards him.
"Oh. Great" he muttered under his breath. He fought to keep his smile from falling. Not that he wasn't glad to see her - quite the opposite. Ron just hoped that she wouldn't say something about how he should be doing his work. "Hi Hermione." Ron moved over a bit more to give her room to sit. When she did, a weird feeling spread throughout Ron. When he was younger it was easier to be around Hermione once they became friends. Now it was totally different though. His plug-obsessed father would probably describe the feeling that Ron got whenever she was around as an electric shock. "I'm taking advantage of the break, of course." Ron chuckled softly before returning his to Harry. "I needed to clear my head, to be truthful." Ron winced internally at his honesty. I wonder if Harry and Hermione are feeling the same way as me?

Hermione looked at Ron as he smiled ahead. Ron, no matte what new what to say to either, annoy or make Hermione smile, that's why, as some others had said Hermione had wanted to stay away from Ron most of the time, that she couldn't stay near Ron without starting an arguement. Lately though, she had noticed Ron tended to be.....more quiet and distant the words were. Although, Hermione hadn't mentioned it to any one before now.
"Ron, is that why you've tended to be more distant, more quiet? You know you can talk to either me or Harry whenever you can" Hermione wanted to say that, but nothing came out, she just looked at Ron
