At exactly midnight, Madison Riccio walked down the hallway towards the kitchens. For a snack, for thinking, for anything.
When she reached the portrait, she reached up and tickled the pear, opening the doorway to the kitchens. There were many house elves there, rushing around, cooking like always.
"Miss Madison!" a house elf squealed, running over and hugging her legs.
"Hello Cyd," Madison said, smiling down at the house elf. Cyd was a former elf that served at her estate until Madison freed her. "Could you get me an icecream sundae, like always?"
And without another word, the little elf ran off, preparing the food that was requested. Madison sat down at one of the counters, looking around at the many elves that were around the kitchens.

The fireplace flickered threatening to go out at any minute. Ron Weasley rubbed his eyes and sighed. The Gryffindor common room was deserted, save for himself. He was trying to work on the three foot essay on The Goblin Wars for History of Magic, but it wasn't working out. "I've got at least a week," Ron muttered trying to reassure himself. That's what he always did, and every time he found himself working on whatever the given homework was at the last minute. I can't take this anymore. He closed his textbook and stood up with a yawn.
He chuckled softly, hearing Hermione's voice in his head. No doubt she'd done that essay ages ago. He could just ask her for help, but he'd probably just get embarrassed. I bet she'd say something like "Ron, it's N.E.W.T year. If you can't do your work now then you'll never be able to." Ron could also ask Harry, but then again he probably hadn't started either. I can't wait until this year is over.
Ron walked around the common room, trying to think of something to do. He had almost given up and decided on going to bed when her felt a familiar rumble in his stomach. Hermione's voice popped up in Ron's head again, this time criticizing him for being a Prefect and breaking the rules. It wasn't enough to stop Ron though. He was hungry, and everything would work out as long as he made it to the kitchens without getting caught.
Tonight must have been Ron's lucky night, because no one was out in the corridor. He thought about using his wand for light but decided against it. Ron made his way down the staircases as quietly as possible for someone who couldn't see. Finally he reached the portrait of fruit. Ron reached out and tickled the pear. He asked the first house elf he saw for some chocolate ice cream and thanked it upon it's return. Groggily, Ron sat down at one of the counters. Suddenly he became aware of the girl sitting across from him. "Oh...hi," he said, not loosing interest in his ice cream. "S'ppose you couldn't sleep either?"
