Luke absentmindedly walked towards the lake with his hands shoved deep into his pockets and his bag hanging off of his shoulder. He had finished all of his homework early and now had nothing to do. As is usually the case. The letters from his family that was usually comforting now became is main source of worry and concern.
Luke's worrying did not subside after reading his brother's latest letter. Luke had received said letter only an hour ago but he had already successfully annoyed his room mates into kicking him out of the dormitory.
The early afternoon sun shone brightly. Birds from the Forbidden Forest chirped liked there was no tomorrow and the lake glittered like diamonds. Luke couldn't understand how the world could be so happy and cheerful while there was a war raging outside the walls of Hogwarts.
A butterfly flew past Luke and he wondered how his little sister was doing at home. Was she playing outside, having convinced their mother that she needed a break from her lessons? Or is she climbing trees like the tomboy that she sometimes was?
Finally reaching the lake, Luke dropped his bag in the soft grass and plopped down beside it. He leaned back, putting all of his wait on his elbows and watched as the Giant Squid lazily floated near the surface of the water.
The sun soon became too bright for his eyes so Luke laid on his back and closed his eyes, putting his hand behind his head to make it more comfortable. His mind slowly drifted to the letter that his older brother had sent him.
The letter was full of things that Nick, Luke's older brother, was doing as an auror in-training. Before, Luke wasn't too happy that Nick wanted to be an auror, but he didn't complain. Now though, Luke wished he had said something. More and more aurors were dying everyday and Luke was afraid that one day, it might be Nick. Or their father. The lowering numbers of aurors able to work meant that those in training finished their training sooner.
At least as an auror in-training, Nick didn't do much other than training. But lately, Nick was doing more and more practical tasks. some of it, Luke was sure, had nothing to do with training. Luke was worried that Nick would be done training and be sent out to hunt down Death Hunters or something. Nick was young, only three years older than Luke, but Luke knew that Nick was head of his class. Chances were, Nick would be the first done training.
Luke sighed. When did his simple world become so complex and fragile. Any moment, someone he knew or cared about might die. Not even the walls of Hogwarts could stop the war from affecting the students within. Still, Luke knew that Hogwarts was the safest place to be. He only hoped that his mother and sister was safe too in their home in the countryside.
Luke's thoughts were suddenly interrupted when he heard footsteps. The person was walking closer and closer to him but Luke didn't open his eyes. He tried to guess who it was. The rhythm of the steps sounded familiar.
((Ya, that was really long. I was in a writing mood. The effects of the lack of role playing I've been doing lately.))

((Thats fine..but dont expect mine to be very long at the moment..I should be practicing my lines...but bugger that, if they find out Ive been working this hard..Ill die anyway...so yeah))
Letitia, sadder & more depressed than usual, walked around the castle, just wanting to stay away from everybody, expecially Draco, it was the last thing she wanted right then right now, expecially after they had kissed, even though it meant nothing, and she knew that...But it still, it just felt different being around him these days.
She went into the kitchen, her guitar still in her hand, as she hadnt eaten anything the night before, and didnt feel like being around people in the Great Hall. She stayed in there, eating some of the chocolate cake she cherished so much, but hadnt had for a long time.
Finally, finished eating, and talking, she walked out of the room she had been in for the half any hour. She decided to go to her third favourite place, the lake..after all it was the best place to read...even though that was the place she had kissed another guy, never seeing him again.
She didnt mind the sound of twigs breaking under her feet, or the rustling of the leaves under her shoes.
She noticed, a bit too late that she had interupted someone. "Oh..Im so sorry" she apologised. "I didnt know you were here, normally this place is dizerted" she continued

After a moment of thought, Luke opened his eyes and saw Letitia. Ha, I was right about it being a girl, he thought.
"Oh..I'm so sorry," she apologized. "I didn't know you were here, normally this place is deserted," she continued.
"It's alright," said Luke sitting up. "I don't usually come down here. I just felt like a change of scenery today."
It was true. Luke usually went up to one of the towers or into the Forbidden Forest. He rarely went out to the lake. But today, He didn't feel like climbing up the stairs or walking to the forest. They both took too much effort.
"So what brings you out here today?" asked Luke, making conversation. He carefully kept his calm and smooth. There was no point in announcing to the world his problems because surely there were people with bigger ones than his.
((Rereading my previous post, I find that it was very...emotional. It must have been all the reading I've been doing.))

Letitia let out a breath, that had been pent up with worry. "Good to know. The alst thing you want to do, is interrupt people anymore. She walked over to the boy & sat next to him, putting her guitar down. Relaxing for once. She didnt know what it was, she just felt relaxed around this boy, it was just this aror around him that she felt, not like she felt around most people these days.
So what brings you out here today?
"I was just going to you know, finish writing this song Ive been trying to finish for so long now....I guess I just havent had the right muse around me for writing huh?" she questioned, it was sort of retorical, she was sure he would knoww aht she meant.. "You know. What about you?" she asked

"Good to know. The last thing you want to do, is interrupt people anymore."
Luke smiled a little. As Letitia sat down, Luke noticed how she visibly relaxed. Her shoulders sagged and the tension in her back was gone. He hoped that she felt better. It was amazing how wonderful it feels after relaxing tight muscles. It felt like you were floating.
Seeing Letitia relax, Luke noticed the contrast between his body language and hers. While Letitia looked physically happier, he noticed that there was a lot of tension in his muscles. I wonder how I hadn't noticed before. thought Luke.
Luke also noticed his face seemed to have set into a serious expression. He frowned. At least I can do that. But I doubt a smile that can pass off as genuine is possible.
"So what brings you out here today?"
Luke could feel his mood turning darker at the return of the topic of his worry. Luke mentally sighed. It looked like his very dark side might rear its ugly head today. He only hoped that no one would get injured. Physically or emotionally.
"I was just thinking about the war," answered Luke in a (hopefully) calm voice. He wasn't sure if he should continue and elaborate on the subject. He was a naturally closed person. He didn't often tell people about how he felt. Except his brother.

((Quick post...other wise I wont get this done...))
"Really? What about the war?" Letitia asked, not knowing whether he wanted to tell. if he didnt, that was fine, she had a feeling she knew what it was about. It was alot to be thinking of anytime, with any amount of people, and alot to say to someone you hardly know. Sure, she had seen him in the Common Room, and when she first met Vincent, which didnt go very well, but still.

"Well, it's really more about my family than the war," explained Luke. "I was thinking about how the war is affecting my family. You know, my dad is an auror and my older brother is training to become one. My younger sister is mute and for someone so young, her non-verbal spells are pretty good. But I still worry about her. She doesn't know how to fight with almost no one to fight with. And my mom doesn't leave the house all that often. I think she's out of practice. I just worry what will become of my family. Sometimes, it seems like I'm the only one aware of the dangers and the only one who is realistic with them."
Luke paused. Had he said too much? He knew that he needed to tell someone about his problems. Vincent was being antisocial and everyone else had there own problems to deal with. Luke hadn't talked this much in a very long time. The last time he had opened up and told anyone about his worries had been last summer, sitting on the roof in the middle of the night and staring at the stars with his older brother.
Luke glanced at Letitia, wondering what her reaction would be. He didn't know her all that well but she seemed to be someone who would listen. Or maybe she wasn't really all that nice...
I'm being paranoid again. But I can't stop. Especially since my caution has saved me so many times before.

« Reply #7 Today at 7:52am » Letitia sat and listened. The exact same thing had been going through her head, but it was more her friends. This guy really seemed to enjoy talking to complete strangers about this, which really honoured her.
She looked at him, down at the little bit of green grass, then back up at the boy. "I see..." she said, once he finished then continued. "It really must be hard, and by the way youre talking to me about it, it's even harder to talk about it, probably why you just let it all out.." she said, letting her psychology come through. Most didnt like her for that, how she just treated them like patients, as if they were depressed muggles. But that was just her.
"I really appreciate you opening up to me like this...I mean, it's impossible, for me to talk about my problems. Even my best friends dont know anythng whats really going through my mind" she said, looking down then back up again, naturally, as if it was almost impossible to just look some one in the eyes these days, which...to most, it was.
The smile she had had, was now gone, and a blank, but serious expression sat on her face. She was shocked, ubt hid it very well.

"Well," began Luke, about to go into an explanation, "the thing about talking to strangers is that while you are afraid to be judged by them, it is much more frightening to be judged by people who care about you because their opinions actually matter.
"People always say that those who care about you wouldn't judge you. Perhaps it's true, but it doesn't save anyone's feelings. Maybe they would forgive you, but that doesn't mean they were never disappointed in you. Saying that, it would make you feel guilty knowing you had hurt someone you cared about, even if it was unintentional. Talking to a stranger, they can judge you, but their opinions wouldn't matter too much since they hardly know you and their assumptions might not be correct. Or they might not judge at all and that is what you were looking for in the first place."
Luke closed his mouth. There he went again, rambling on about psychology and philosophy. He wasn't even sure if it made any sense. But he was thankful that this sudden change of topic about talking to strangers had distracted him (very slightly) from his worries.
Not really caring what Letitia's reactions would be, Luke lay back down on the grass and put his hands behind his head. His eyes wandered to the clouds since the sun was no longer so bright.
