welcome to BERKLEY;;
"Controlling my feelings for too long. Controlling my feelings for too long. Controlling my feelings for too long. Controlling my feelings for too long."
Welcome to Berkley. Here in Berkley, you have what people call 'scandal'. Instead of saying 'Hey, what's the news?' or 'Hey, what's up?' people say, 'Well, any scandal?' Because that's all they have here. Scandal. News that is often so shocking and dramatic that it can't be referred to as news, no, it's a scandal.
"Forcing our darkest souls to unfold. And forcing our darkest souls to unfold. Pushing us into self destruction. Pushing us into self destruction."
Berkley, as large a city as it is, has only one high school, and one university, that all the youth of Berkley have to attend, or not attend at all. This means that Berkley High can often be the source of all the drama. Or maybe it's Berkley Star University that's causing the latest scene. Or not. Sometimes people forget that there's any adults in Berkley at all, and in all meanings of the term, technically there isn't. Yes, you have people ranging from all ages, right up to 95, but none of them have that sense of maturity adults are supposed to have. A lot of them have kids, and some of them complain that the teenagers are the cause of Berkley's bad name and reputation for drama, scandal and appalling behaviour. But where did the teenagers learn it from? It wasn't TV, that's for sure. No, the adults of Berkley are just as bad as the kids, they're just a little more low-key about it.
"And they make me, Make me dream your dreams. And they make me, Make me scream your screams."
Gossip spreads like wildfire through Berkley, but again we have to come back to the 'Monkey See, Monkey Do' syndrome that everyone in Berkley seems to have. Even old Mrs. Schreibner, the city's current oldest inhabitant at 91 years of age, can't seem to keep her mouth shut. She might hear something from the "Meals On Wheels" delivery men and then pass it onto her postman and from there he'll probably tell someone else he's delivering mail to, and from there it just gets totally out of hand. Nobody can keep quiet about anything, and their reason for it is because they're all so scared their own secret will be told that they think if they pass around someone elses, theirs will remain unknown.
"Trying to please you for too long. Trying to please you for too long. Visions of greed you wallow. Visions of greed you wallow."
But this is Berkley, and scandal is scandal. And one way or another, everyone gets into the papers - and usually it's not for anything good. You can't hide the past with sealed lips, but...
You could always try a sealed coffin.
